I've been busy. Here's some stuff.
--Months after launch people are still doing outrageous thing to get their hands on a Wii. I'm thinking about stopping by the Landmark Best Buy next week to see if they're still there.
--Amazon is now selling arcade machines. One day I shall make these mine. Oh yes.
--Gaming technology is being used for physical therapy for children with cerebral palsy. Aw.
In the undisputed Shocker of the Millenium, Apple announces the dead sexy iPhone. Widescreen iPod, buttonless touchscreen, OSX, Safari, widgets, and I don't even know what else.
Now all I need is $500 USD and a reason to actually use any of that and I'm all set.
EDIT: Oh, and apparently it also has sensors that turns the touchscreen off when it gets close to your face to prevent inadvertent keystrokes. Let the Naomi Campbell jokes commence.
Reading news items from the past is something I always find fascinating, and today I ran across nice one: Some ten years ago Wired wrote a piece on 101 ways to rescue the once-floundering Apple from the brinks of obselesence. Some of the advice is completely on the nose ("Create commercials featuring real-life people in situations where buying a Mac (or switching to a Mac) saved the day."), some were the basis of some pretty smart decisions ("Stop being buttoned-down corporate and appeal to the fanatic feeling that still exists for the Mac."), some are indicative a few trends Apple was wise to avoid ("Invest heavily in Newton technology"), and some just remain hilarious victims of dramatic irony ("Team up with Sony, which wants to get into the computer business in a big way - think Sony MacMan.").
Basically, if Wired ever gives you business advice, you'd probably be best to listen to a fourth of what they say and run with it.

Scott Adams is just a wee bit skeptical about GM’s new Volt concept electric car. The company claims that the car will run 40 miles on a single charge and save consumers $900 a year — the only problem being that they don’t know when they’ll have technology that can actually do any of this. “It’s called a ‘concept car’ because that sounds better than ’something we pulled out of our ass and hope to someday shove up yours.’”
Coming soon to Huzzah Goods: New shirts made of a newly developed synthetic fabric that gives body massages when worn and is made from recycled medical waste. These shirts will be released in about seventeen years when my trusted scientists figure out how to make this fabric exist; until then, please alert the press to how awesome and forward-thinking I am for conceiving this uber-progressive concept.
Today's sign that they are, in fact, slowly taking over: Robots are giving birth. Kind of. "Kyunghee University Medical Center in Seoul is the first institution in South Korea to use Noelle, a life-sized robot, and her "newborn" to give obstetric students experience"
This picture may very well be an early contender for Creepiest Goddamn Thing of the Year.
